From 1944, the Landing Ship Medium (LSM class) were used as landing ships by the US Navy in the Pacific against Japanese enemies. They were the main component of the American naval forces when landing troops and vehicles on enemy-held beaches.

Several ships of the LSM class were sunk by kamikaze attacks by the end of the war - but their reputation remains legendary decades after the Second World War!
